Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart, founder of the K Group and member of the De Stijl group in the Netherlands, born in Osnabrück in 1899, was an influential artist of the constructivist movement. He studied at the School of Applied Arts and the Technical University in Hanover. His work was executed in collages, photomontages and reliefs. He worked as a typographer, theatre and stage painter, furniture and interior designer. In 1954, he became head of the department of visual communication at the School of Design in Ulm. During his lifetime, he participated in important exhibitions in museums such as the Stedelijk (1938) and the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum (1939) as well as the Venice Biennale and Documenta I and II in Kassel.
